Yep, but the hope is that someone will see someone using pliers to turn the ignition and will say something.

I really should get a padlock but I hate the inconvenience of it. Then again, it is more inconvenient if the bike is stolen.

It probably wouldn't take much to wire up a fob type system.

I think most bikes are stolen by being loaded up on a trailer or truck and hauled off than ridden away these days. Many people assume that all Harley's have the fob security. Even had someone at a dealer had a discussion with me when I brought it in for service once. I got a laugh out of that one when I showed the person it only needs an ordinary key and once unlocked, it doesn't even need that.

Worrell or Wardell, something like that, makes a rotor pad lock that looks like a brake caliper.
Take a plug wire off. What kind of thief carries one with them? $0.75 switch from radio shack wired onto the ground wire of the ignition. I don't know....
I rarely bring my keys with me and if I travel I have yet to bring the bike so it had never really bothered me. I am willfully opening myself up to an I told you so.

Most times I park where I can see it. If I am unable to do that I lock the ignition and use the padlock. If someone does take it, I have really good insurance.

I was thinking of getting one of these:

But then I saw this:

LOL. I think the guy put it on the rear wheel and the thief drove away, using the power of the engine to break the lock.

Still not a bad idea if you put it on the front wheel, plus they come with a chain attachment. You can get them in 10mm padlocks that can't be cut. No guarantee, but better than nothing, which is what I have right now.

I used to worry. The first time I went to Daytona I had a padlock and one of those bike ulocks for the wheel. The first morning I go out to unlock it and the damn key breaks off in the ulock?? WTF. I had to use a big hammer and channellocks for about an hour with someone holding it steady. I'm over locks now. I just park it in a well lit location in plain sight.

Call me foolish, but most of the time I don't even lock the ignition…..unless I'm away from it in an unfamiliar area for a period of time. And still haven't gotten around to buying a nice padlock either. Not to blow any holes in the "dirty bike" theory, but mine rarely has a speck of dust on it……I think it's just that thieves know our evos are less valuable, inferior, and outdated machines ( another plus in the evo column).

Actually, what prompted this thread was I heard of a guy who parked his EVO downtown, went back outside and it was gone. No alarm on it. Just stock ignition lock, bye bye...

Probably in a container on its way to anywhere now.

Man you gotta remember one thing.
The only function of any lock anywhere is to keep an honest man honest!

Thieves can and will (if they want to bad enough) defeat any lock made.

Just my 2 cents.
