Default Which Carb?

Hey All,
I've a stock 98 FatBoy and have decided to replace the stock carb. I'd appreciate some feedback on which I should go with, S n S, Mikuni, etc.
Thanks.
Jeff

I like S&S Super E myself. But, I know that people really like Mikuni. I have had two big twins and had an S&S on both.

Depends what kind of riding you wanna do. I have Super E on my decker (long hauls, high speeds) and HSR42 on the Heritage (city bar hopping, stop and go). IMHO both are good for where they are in my setup.

Any reason you want to get away from the stock CV? They work pretty good .

I just moved to the S&S Super E shorty and it's added a great deal of power that I've never experienced on my ride before. I'm extremely happy with it.

I honestly don't think you will see much difference between it and a 40 / 42 mm Mikuni. The S&S has less adjustments and mine ran right out of the box. The Mikuni has a few stages more to sync up. If you want precise control over your power bands and don't mind multiple adjustments or the possible need to Dino then select Mikuni. If you want to take the simpler approach S&S.

Keep in mind you'll need the intake and the air filter assembly when converting.

Yep. Been running one of his 41.5 mm on the Lowrider, this season , & its a good carb. Better, imo, than than the S&S I had on it. Bout the same power, from the dyno #'s, but a overall user friendly carb, meaning hardly any pops. farts or coughing . Whole lot better gas mileage. Only bitch I have , it's not as agressive, from say 60-65mph to 75-80 mph, roll on, as the S&S. In one of my threads, a while back. I had mentioned that I was thinking of trying one, & a member commented that it would be a little "Soft", was the word he used. From a stand still till top end, it will hang with the S&S, all day.
Ride Safe,
Harold

Everyone has an opinion what they have is the best. Bob Wood backs it up with facts. I would bet the majority don't know how to dial in a CV so they think it's crap and go to something else. My 80" was putting out 87 Hp 92 Tq with a Wood CV until I had it dialed back. Still at 87/87 with much less db. I'd look at the facts and make the decision that is best for your bike and budget.

What other mods do you have to your bike?
