Am I running too lean?
Just wondering what the proper tailpipe coloration should be inside the tailpipes. I am running V&H Straight Shots with the stage 1 upgrade and my pipes are a light brown rust color inside the exhaust end. Is this normal or am I running a little lean?. I bought my bike used and was told it was remapped for the high flow air filter and just want to make sure I am not running too lean. I am going to pull the plugs later today and see what they look like. My Honda's exhaust always had a black color and it was set up lean from the factory.

Sometimes it's hard to tell like that, to be sure you can have a base dyno run done and check the AFR air fuel ratio, this will for sure tell you if the bike is lean or rich in any rpm areas.

With unleaded gas all the old color stuff in the pipes and plugs is out the window. Pulling the plugs doesn't work unless you do a run at the prm range you are concerned with, pull the clutch in, shut the ignition off, and coast to a stop. And even then the color may not tell stuff like it use to when gas had lead.
Do your pipes have baffles? If so, you are probably OK. If not, the Stage 1 might be just a bit on the lean side, I'm guessing. As John said, a dyno run will tell all.
