Default Stumped ?

I just picked up a 85 flh 80 and notice on the front cyclinder head where the pipe bolts into the head there is only one bolt hole. It leaks right there and doesn't look like it was shaved off or anything like that,it's just not there. My question is , has anyone came across that before? Or is that common?

Well, if a shovel head is in it, it only has one bolt for the exhaust flange connection.

An EVO will have 2 studs and if only one is there and it looks like there is no hole it's broken off flush.

What engine is in it?

Ah yes,it is a shovelhead engine which would explain the one bolt. I just felt the air comming from there and thought it was missing one. Was kind of worried that my project bike was going to turn into a complete rebuild. I ask a few folks round here and of course they said they never saw only one bolt. So a big slice of raisin pie for you bro you eased my mind and wallet a great deal. Oh and sorry for the delay in answering I'm still figuring out this new high tech gadgets, after being on vacation for a few decads. But I'll get in the groove fast enough. All respects!

Great - just a simple exhaust leak!

You can see the parts book for your bike on-line here, which will show you every detail, including part numbers. 1984 was the transitional year from shovel to the new Evo, so it is possible your bike is actually an '84, registered in '85. When using that link go to 1984 for your bike. There is a sealing ring in each head #65834-68A, although you may have to look for aftermarket parts.

For future info we have a Shovel section, where you can meet fellow owners.
