Okay need some direction for welding in the bungs...going to order the Thundermax at next week.
Have 05 ultra with stock headers SE slipons...instead of going with new headers for now will install the bungs....
1. Do the bungs come with the Thundermax?
2. Where on the pipes do these get welded (and in which pipes)
3. This needs to be tig welded? (stainless?)
4. Should cost me about 30 bucks to have this done? (I take off the pipes/drill the hole?)
I haven't totally ruled out buying different header pipes...want to use the same slip on's though.
I took my pipe (v/h propipe) and put the heat shields on loose. I marked the spotwhere the bungs would not interfere with the clamps (about 3-4 inches away from the gasket). I took the heat shields off andhad my wife hold the pipe in place on the bike.I put the sensorsagaint the spot I marked on the pipe tocheck clearance (the sensors arearound 3-4 inches long). I then took the pipe to a local muffler shop. They should have the bungs in stock. It is just a standard bosch o2 bung. They welded in the bungs and charged $75.00. I thought that was steep but I didn't ask first. The only problem I had was that the hole they drilled was not largeenough for the sensor to fit into. I had to use a dremel to open the hole up. Make sureyou check thatbefore mounting on the bike. I did not and it was a pia. The thunder max does not come with bungs unless you order them. Each pipe placement will be different. I don't know but would guess tig welded.
