Newbie question ...
I have done several searches and found a bunch of related info but I will still ask the question and hope there is a quick answer. First the history... I picked up my '05 FXD a couple of months back and I had SE exhast installed before delivery. She is a great machine and I love her bunches. However, I recently had the fist service completed (100mi or 1600km) and I brought up the fact that the bike suffers from decel popping and coughs once in a while at slow constant speeds. Technician adjusted the idle mixture a bit but said I should look at jetting and perhaps SE intake etc. as well as a Dyno run.
Now the question. If I am not seriously looking for mind boggling performance is the Dyno really necessary as the tech suggested? You would think they must know the best jetting/carb setup for such a common bike. FXD with SE exhaust, otherwise bone stock. Could I not just buy the required parts and do this myself with acceptable results?
I have been riding metric sports for 20 years and have been down this road before but I really wanted every horsey that was available with my past bikes. Even then though the technician worked over the carb before the dyno and really never tweaked much.
Sorry for the long winded approach to this but I appreciate you guidance!
