Louvered vs. Perforated
What are the advantages or disadvantages of the current Rinehart High-Flo louvered baffle setup as compared to switching to a D&D style perforated or perforated wrapped config (custom built)?
I had considered switching to the D&D Boarzilla 2:1 prior to the 124" build-up but I think much like the 6.7 injectors...may be jumping the gun.
How do the baffles influence the general performance & dyno output?
I pulled the spiral louvered (no wrap) baffle from my existing Rinehart 2:1, took a bunch of measurements and ordered a LA Choppers Universal Baffle with Packing 24inL - 2.5in Dia. (LA-1225-24P).
I'm curious to see how a spiral louvered but unwrapped compares to a perforated (wrapped or un-wrapped), while still in the Rinehart 2:1 in both sound and performance. Then from that point I'll decide on whether or not to keep with the $45 upgrade, or jump to the full D&D Boarzilla route.
As for the injectors, well... I thought that a 6.7 would just simply have a shorter duty cycle and could eventually carry over from the 107" to the 124". They (6.7's) have a 4 port spray pattern and are definitely higher quality than the previous injectors but it was probably just wishful thinking.
I'll post pictures and informal review once I get a chance.
I fit the perforated baffle and installed:
Louvered, unwrapped baffle (Rinehart 2:1) stock setup:
Perforated, wrapped baffle:
Initial conclusion: I'm happy with the perforated wrapped as it keeps a good low rumble without being quite as 'percussive' as the louvered design and for my build the back-pressure isn't as necessary.
...of course this is completely subjective as I didn't have a performance baseline of a dyno before & after to show the changes in HP & Torque curves, but it was an interesting $45 experiment.
we've noticed better throttle response (on higher compression motors) with the perforated over the louvered and the louvered will tenn to run richer...
the perforated has the perfect tone at cruzing speeds(and that is adjustable by length) ...but will let you hear it well when on the gas !!!
just our 2 cents ...
