Need some help with creating a little better baffle or some way of restricting this. I like the pipes and the looks but **** me in the goat *** they are loud as hell. I have a buddy running the rinehart straight pipes that look similar to the short shots. These are quite a bit louder than those. In essence making it just a little quieter. The diameter of the screen is the standard 1 3/4 and surrounded by fiberglass packing. This end is crimped down a bit to slide into the header pipe. On the other end is a collar thats just shy of 2 3/8 inch that holds it into the outer pipe housing with a screw. Been trying to do some profound brain things all day and can't quiet come up with a solution. I had asked in another thread and someone sent me a link to the thunder torque inserts. Does anyone think those would quiet it down a little? I know they will give me back some back pressure and lost torque. Im just looking for a solution because I just paid $500 for the pipes. I like loud but these are just a bit too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind I have no idea how to weld.
I laughed when I read your thread...nothing like a classic Sandler line to start the day.
I ran into the same issue with my exhaust, loved the look...couldn't stand the sound. I've installed the Thunder Torque inserts into my pipes..maybe took a decibel or two off but certainly didn't make them much quieter. They did help with some low end torque though..a little back pressure isn't a bad thing for street riding.
The baffle you're running there looks to be a straight through shot, my suggestion, check some of the dimensions on the Vance and Hines Quiet Baffles..maybe you can find one in the same diameter as your pipe. I've run those in the past and was pretty happy with the results, they sounded better (almost deeper), performed better, and made the pipes a little quieter. Just my 2-cents.
DK Customs makes/sells inserts that screw into the end cap of your pipes. I just bought some and decided to buy a 2-1 instead. But they're supposed to do exactly what you are asking. http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Thun...nserts_c57.htm
The Thunder Torque Inserts will do what you want. For $25, they are a great product and the service can't be beat. They will provide a nice idle, relatively quiet cruise, and really bark when you twist the wrist.
Well just went to a loud pipe contest and didn't win so I guess thats a good thing. Measured at 117db. Though it was an app on someones phone and not a true decibel meter. Loudest was 124. Thanks guys I will try the TTI.
