Default Exhaust question

This is a Screeming eagle I exhaust on my -08 Softail Custom. I am trying to remove the exhaust to install another one, but I don’t understand the connection pictured below. What is it and how do I remove it?

What is this?

How to disconnect it from the bike?

It is an exhaust actuator and cable. Apparently it is an emissions device on certain models originally sold in Australia, Brazil, and England. Here is a link to a discussion on it. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/exhau...ve-delete.html Just google the term " exhaust actuator Harley" you will find lots of folks with the same question and how they proceeded. I included a parts diagram below that may help . Good Luck and enjoy your project!

Thank you very much. I haven’t figured out how to disconnect it yet, but I will keep surfing the net for the answer.

Buy the Harley FSM for your model and year - that should cover this and all manner of other things you will find helpful!

It's a heat riser. Sure made it convoluted. Years ago in the 50s, was a bimetal spring that stuck shut in a year. Then the went to a cover with a vent pipe from the exhaust. Cats did away with it I think for the most part. Looks totally mechanical. However, that crossover exhaust is quiet and makes plenty of power as is. Each cylinder shares both mufflers and one pulls the others exhaust. Aftermarket will only kill power (especially bottom end), and engine braking
