Default Contrary to ordinary

Hi Group. I just joined and have spent hours looking at all the postings. It seems like one should be able to find anything there but?????? Sorry if this has been rehashed over and over but here goes.

I have a 2017 Fat Boy that I bought with only 2500 miles on it. The previous owner did a stage 1 upgrade on it with Screaming Eagle intake, the SE Pro Street Tuner and Cobra slip-ons with the original pipes and the bike runs out really well.

And now to the “contrary” part: for short trips the mufflers are great but on longer trips the loud exhaust gets tiring, especially when at the end of the trip I have to climb the long hill up to my house. I’m trying to find something that still retains that low Harley rumble but doesn’t bark so loud when the throttle is opened. I don’t need people to hear me from 2 blocks away. I bought and installed Cobra’s quiet baffles and they take a bit off the sharp edge off but it is not really any quieter.

I’ve been looking at slip on-s which all appear to be loud but I’m leaning toward 2 into one systems and it appears that I would gain a lot on the low end torque which really appeals. I’ve watched a bunch of u-tube vids but it’s hard to really tell much about the sound, especially the volume.

On several of the posts people were on their 3rd or 4th set of pipes before they got what they liked. I’m afraid my allowance would be cut off long before I got that far!

Any tips, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Randy

Look at the Pro Pipe from Vance & Hines , putting a set on this winter , from what I understand and by reading reviews , the standard baffle isn't very loud at all , just a nice rumble , but they do also offer a quiet baffle as well as a performance one , if your into really loud . I would try the standard , then go quiet if the standard isn't to your liking . I like the idea of being to swap out baffles , sometimes my mood changes .

Once you decide on a set of 2-1 , your going to have to get the bike re tuned , so add that to your budget .

Check out pipes make by Supertrapp. I ran a Supermeg on a twin cam fatboy and I run the two into one Fatshot system on my M8 Roadking. The disc system allows you alot of flexibility with tuning for performance and sound levels.

+ 1 on the Supertrapps... I ran Fatshots on my 05 twin cam and running them again on my M8. I can go from somewhat “authoritative” with open end caps and no discs to quiet as stock with closed end caps and 24 discs on each side

Well another new development. I "assumed" that the SE Pro Street tuner was installed and in the bike somewhere. After searching in the bike and looking on line I learned that it is a plugin module used to reprogram the bikes computer and it is nowhere to be found. I contacted the PO and he sold it along with a bunch of other Harley stuff when he changed bike brands. SO, the muffler swap just got more expensive so it appears that in addition to asking for advice on a new exhaust system, I'm going to have to learn about tuners too. Any suggestions or can the Harley dealer upgrade my computer after the swap?

Watch the forum and eBay for new unused SE tuners. I picked one up for $75 a few weeks ago. The SE software is pretty easy to use, select the components on your bike, hookup the tuner and ride the bike. Download the results from your ride into your computer loaded with the SE program. The program takes the ride readings and the components you input and comes up with a tune which you then down load to your bike. It's not hard just follow the directions.

I down loaded the instructions when I thought I had one and they look really detailed but like anything else, when you get into it is just one step at a time and then your there.
