Have a 2000 FXST carb with 36K on the clock. I've been getting roughly 39 to 40 miles per gallon. I did not clean the air filter for a long time (8000 miles). Have the K&N reuseable and a Mikuni 42 on the bike. Cleaned and re-oiled air filter last night.(probably used a bit too much oil when I recharged it). So today I take it out a I can notice a little difference in throttle response.After 80 miles of straight freeway riding at roughly 70MPH I only got 39 miles per gallon. Tires are at correct pressure, have vance and hines straight shots that I'm running without baffles. Bike ran great. Just wondering what I need to do to get better gas milage? I see some claiming high 40's up to 50 miles per gallon. I'm not losing sleep over this but just wondering if there is more I can do to get my numbers up a bit.

Does the scoot need jetting? I was running a 170 main and getting 43 mpg...put in a 175 and backed the adjustable ignition off this morning, got 47 mpg.
Just a thought, I'm no mechanic by any means.

Not sure about the re-jet. The bike runs great with the exception of the oil leaking from the air filter due too my over doing it on the oil [:@]! anyone know how baffles affect gas milage??
