Default Curing Black Finish Properly?

Hello all, so I just pulled the trigger on a TBR Shorty Turnout for my FXLRS. I was horribly torn between the stainless and black, but basically flipped a coin and went with black.

I've heard from many people that black finish on exhausts often wears much faster than other finishes such as chrome. This is no surprise, but I've also talked to people with over 20k miles on their black finished pipes with no real blemishes. So I'm leaning towards the fact that curing them properly plays a big role in this? I do expect to have to refinish them probably once every year to two years as I ride in almost all conditions and near daily for about 9/10 mo out of the year, resulting in about 25k miles per year. However I would LIKE to do this properly so that I'm not having to touch up every 5k miles.

Anyone have any tips/advice for making those finishes last a good while? Thank you.

Haha that's exactly what I did. I was touching up my NH slip-ons with BBQ paint which was holding pretty well. Figured why not throw a couple coats on this pipe? Color is almost identical. I coated it a couple times before installing. Then, after many issues, finished installing and threw some bags behind the pipes and did one last coat/touchup.

Looks almost identical and I expect they'll hold better than the original finish.
