Any problems with...

installing a filter on the crankcase vent tubes instead of running them into the breather?

nope....philm has this idea we can also put a vent on the oil return line to further alleviate the lower crankcase pressure, i agree but mines that purty chrome line an i'm too lazy to cut and T it
