I have a 04 EGC that has a lot of noise coming from the rear rocker assy when it gets warm ( no noise when cold ) it sounds like too much clearance in the valve train somewhere. The front cylinder is perfect. if you listen to the rear with a stethescope the noise is the loudest at the right rear corner which would be the exhaust push rod. I NEED HELP ON THIS ONE SO IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS I'M LISTENING.
THANX
Just off the top of my head you may have a lifter going bad and not pumping up tight. Do not know why quite when cold and gets worse when warm but lifter is where I would start.
zoomie,
What is the proper procedure for setting the lash on the rockers I have not looked in the shop manual yet, is it explained there ? ? ? also I ordered a new rocker support assy so that I can start out fresh as the one that is in the bike was warped .019 I trued it up and it helped some, but there is still quite a bit of noise.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
They shim out left to right not for lash. If you have adjustable pushrods you can set the lash with those. Are you sure you don't have a sticky lifter? That can make a lot of valve train noise too.
Zoomie,
As I said the noise is only present when the motor is HOT, nothing when cold and I put a new set of lifters and push rods in and nothing changed. I also have replaced the rocker assy. base plate but not the rockers or shafts so that's next I guess. Also what is interesting is if you get it hot and the noise is there and you shut it off for two minutes and restart it the noise will be gone till it regaing that little bit of temp so it is definitely heat related and whatever it is seems to cool off quite fast. Maybe a set of adjustable push rods would help solve things because if you listen to the rear rocker cover with a hose you can definitely hear that it is rocker noise as it is very distinct ? ? ? ? ?
Zoomie,
The bike has 8,000 miles on it so it shouldn't be worn out yet ( I HOPE ) I have new rockers and shafts coming in a couple of days then the last move will be adj. push rods. I know what you are saying about just run it but this has become a challenge now more than a problem and the bike runs fine as we just finished a 4,000 mile road trip and it did not miss a beat. I have been making one change at a time so that if and when I fix it I will know exactly what did it. I have received a lot of e-mails from others with the same problem so maybe I can save someone some time and frustration. Thanks again for your concern, I will keep you posted.
