Default Compression Release Valves

As I inch ever closer to my big bore engine (95") I see that the parts list includes compression release valves. I know what they are and what they do but question their reliability and long term maintainance. My '05 Fatboy getting the work has been absolutely trouble free but I'd like the experience of riding a bike that has had high performance work done on it. Your words of wisdom, use history, etcare appreciated.

Have used releses for the past couple years in a bunch of different bikes. I wont tell you they never go bad, but the good part is, you can always get home if they do go bad. They only aid in starting after all. Most bikes, depending on the ccp of the build will start without them cold. Its mostly hot restarts that give fits when not usuing them.Higher compression motors, as long as they are tuned correctly will last and be reliable.

Just had mine replaced on my 07 Ultra SE...11,000 miles. Been having starter issues for the last 6000 miles/replaced starter...then decided to replace the compression release valves, and now it starts like it is supposed to.

I don't know if this is a known issue on the 110's or not, but at least it is fixed and working fine..and under warranty so no out of pocket for me.

If you run 9.5:1 or more compression I would put them in especially if all ready drilled for them. If you have ever heard a higher compression motor kick back against starter on a hot day will make you grind your teeth. They are easy to replace if they do go bad. Screw in just like a spark plug. Even have metal compression gasket like a spark plug.

I broke my starter on like the 4th or 5th hot restart...something like that.

If you're going Hi-Po...put em in....no matter what any guru tells you.
