Well the top of my engine is off and is going to be shipped
tomorrow to Doug over at Head-Quarters. One thingI
noticed, is that the top of my stock pistons is covered with a
black, oily residue about 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch thick. My tech
told me that it's caused by faulty valve seals. Can this be so.
P.S. I'm so excited....[sm=bounceybounce.gif][sm=happy046.gif][sm=yeahsmile.gif]
I had the same thing. I'm not so sure it's not just a normal thing to have. Doug said I might have been running rich. Doesn't matter though, you are getting new pistons, heads, and cylinders anyway.
What year is you Duece? The 05s & some 06's had crummy vavle seals and many were prone to leaking. If the build up was wet, it could be from the seals or it could be from running extra rich too. If it's dry, it's just normal carbon build up. They ALL do that.
You won't have to worry about leaky valve seals when you get them back.

Good time to check the pistons for slop. The heads are off...take care of any additional problems while its open.

Meztler and Dunlop are going to love you guys!!
I think I just might need to talk to Mr Metzler. The range on these tires has seemed to be decreasing. Looking back, I think I noticed it beginning right around the time I did my most recent engine build.
It's a 2005. My plugs always read ok. I'm thinking my tech
is probably right. The build up is kind of oily. I can't wait to
get my heads back to see Dougs work first hand.

It's great to see progress, eh Mike?
