Default Will stock cams work with HTCC heads?

I'm just curious if the stock cams would work with a set of HTCC (non-ported) TC heads. I'm going to chance everything out eventually I just want to keep the cost down at the moment.

The HTCC heads and pistons are rated at 10.5:1 compression, installing a stock cam with this compression is just begging for detonation in the lower rpm range. You need some valve overlap in a cam with this high of compression.

If I were to use an S&S flywheel assembly and pistons, the CR would only be around 9.1:1. With the S&S stroker kit, it would be about 10.1:1. Would this still cause problems with detonation? ( If I were to go with the stock stroke S&S kit). Would the 10.1:1 be a problem as well? I'm going to get a set of cams eventually, I jsut want to focus on the main parts first. This isnt' a re-build. It's a build from scratch.

The HTCC heads have a combustion chamber shape that requires the HTCC pistons for a squish effect for a complete burn, if you have a flat top piston in this set up the power would be down along with the compression.
If your building a engine from scratch then scratch the HTCC heads and go with a bath tub chamber head and flat top pistons.

agree with doc1 completely. the htcc heads need the htcc design pistons to even come close on the quench and desired compression. you can buy 20 degree pistons from axtell and get them to shape the heads to match the pistons for a better quench and performance, but you will still be better ahead to sell the htcc heads and get a set of nice ported heads with pistons and cams to match the compression of your design. i have had 2 htcc builds and they have not even compared to the same size motor with nice ported heads and matching pistons, cams, etc. not even close. i know some guys have had some performance with htcc builds, but not near as there should have been - lots of guys dissappointed.

I agree with you guys but I got the heads as a gift and need to use them. I dont' want to use HD flywheels since the S&S ones arent' that much mroe expensive and they are bullet proof. If I go with the S&S stroker, can I use the HTCC heads? I know i'm not going to get the full potential out of them, but will they give me some decent power?

Sell the heads on Ebay & you it to rework yours.PLEASE do some research on the HTCC heads. Most folks have issues with them.Listen to Doc 1 or check with Steve @ GMR.Reagrds,Tom

Why would you want to go with a build that is miss matched and not give you good results??? If if they were a gift I wouldn't use them. I would hope that who ever gave them to you would not care if you sold them to up grade to something better.... When I was in the market for heads I two was going to go with the httcc heads, only because I thought they were the best. I ened up sending out my stock ones and having them worked. The total cost was $740.00 that included shipping. My stock heads will out perform the htcc heads and they cost alot less......

Who do you guys recommend does a good job on the heads? I'm looking for low end power. I cam across Bigboyz performance and bishops performance. Any info on these?

I had Baseily super stock head work done to my stock HD heads. They are pretty good but if I was to do it again I'd send them to www.head-quarters.com I'm running there Cams now and they are awesome.
