I installed Krome Werks slip on mufflers with a Cobra Fi 2000and K&N RK-3909.. The engine is very free reving now..But I lost my torque, when accelerating...........I replaced my original filter box back...my torque is back again...why did I lose torque in low to midrange with the K&N? filter kit?
I had the same exact problem on my '07 FLHX. My bike has stage 1 download, screamin eagle one piece street legal mufflers, stock air box with kn filter element runs awesome. I had that pos kn kit, leaked oil everywhere. I took it off and went with the s/e a/c kit. After reading Joe Mintons article in American Rider where he did a comparison between air filters and proved that stock air box makes more torque in usable range I decided to put my stock air box back on to try.He was right bike makes more low end torque.

Now THAT is an eye-opener. I've been itching to put on a Ness Big Sucker to go with my off-road SEIIs and Stage 1 download, and I'd had only one other person tell me that it'd affect my torque... but I am starting to wonder. My TC96 might not be a wheelie monster or hot in the quarter mile, but it is absofekkinlutely the torquiest scooter I have ever sat my happy *** on. I don't wanna *** that up.
Anyone have any dyno info on that? Screw top end ... the speed limit is never higher than 75 in my area and I cruise 85 anyway. Torque is where it's at for me.
Snakum check out the April edition of American Rider, that's where the article is. Also another thing I noticed when I replaced the stock air box the motor seems quieter as I do not hear the intake noises. Bike runs great. I did notice that with the screamin eagle air cleaner kitmy bike would rev to red line quicker, but I feel more power on the low-mid range with the stock air box. I never rev past 4K rpm, so Isee no need to use the s/e kit as it probably makes morehp on top end, which I am not interested in.I just had the IDS installed and it smooths out the ride. It just made a great bike excellent. '07 FLHX
