Just put a D&D Fatcat on my 2007 Heritage Classic. Seemed to go on very easy except I now have a 1/4 inch gap between the Exhaust Manifold Clamp and the Manifold itself. Did not replace the gaskets as the bike only has 1000 miles on it. The pipe itself seems really tight inside the cylinder head.
I agree with Phil and Steve, it sounds like you are referrring to the flange.
There needs to be a gap there, aslong as they are seated and torqued you are good to go.
One thing I did was retorque the flange nuts about 100 miles or so. Not sure if it was necessary but they did take about a 1/2 turn to get back to spec.
Its a gap between the flange which attaches the exhaust to the engine (semi circular ring with two bolts in it at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock which attaches to the engine). The original HD exhaust I took off didn't seem to have the same gap, if any.
Is the gap normal. Torqued to correct amount as per instructions.
