Who has experience with HQ-0034 Cam? I was going to get a 203 set installed but there seams to be a lot of noise about this Head quarters cam. I am running V&H true duals, stage 1 intake & download, and Terry's Terminal velocity. I would be going with chain drive again, replacing tensioners during install & adjustable push rods. Your input is welcomed.
Should I go with aluminum or Co-moly adjustablepush rods?
I've been running them for about a year, and they've been very good. Better then the Andrews 26G's I started out with........those only lasted about 4 months.
I'm pulling them shortly to do some changes to my build..........going with the Woods TW-6G with Hillside Stage 2 heads at 10-1CR.
have a set on my wife's 01 fxdl with 95" upgrade, hillside cycle mildly ported heads, and 9.5compression. it is a great cam to wake up a stock motor (88" or 95") and is a bolt in cam requiring no clearance issues. it really made a difference in her bike over the stock hd cams. doug at head-quarters is a straight shooter and won't mislead you if he knows your build. if you are going to do any major head porting or increase the compression much, the hq-0033 cam may be better choice. his hq-0039 cam is known as a good cam for touring bikes that need more torque.
somewould also say the wood tw-6 is a great cam, perhaps being the best all-around cam out there.
you did not state what your motor is; if it is the newer 96" motors, the andrews 54 cams have just recently started getting rave reviews, especially if you bump the compression a little (cometic gaskets, etc).
I have them in my '04 EG and have been very pleased; used the stock pushrods (per Doug at HQ's approval/ditto the Service Mgr at my HD store), but installed new lifters as the engine had 40K miles. If you change pushrods, you will want "easy install," not just adjustable. HQ and my service manager recommended the HD "B" lifter over the more expensive SE lifter. With a mild SERT tune the bike dynoed at 80/90 hp/tq (which I don't believe is the holy grail/and include the info only for rough comparison purposes), and revs very fast from 2500 up with Rinehart TD's and SE a/c.
Did two sets last year,(88inch bikes)absolutely awesome cam, nice lopey idle, I think this is probably one of, if not the best bolt in cam on the market, they are also as quiet as stock and were very easy to tune. Also over a hundred bucks cheaper than wood cams, you can use that money for a new set of lifters.
