Default O2 Sensor Placement

A question for the Harley Techs/Mechs concerning O2 Sensor placement. I'm in the process of installing a V&H ProPipe HS on my '07 Heritage. I'm trying to determine if there is a specific measurement from the opening of the head pipe to the sensor. I have to weld in the sensor bungs on these pipes due to the fact they were not made for the '07.
I feel that if the sensor is located too far down the pipe, it will sense a cooler temperature, think the mixture is rich and lean out the idle/cruise settings.
Anybody out there have any info? Thanks

You should call V&H and ask them where you should put the 02 S. I my self see it about 4 inchs down. Becarefull because if you mount it to close to the head it can burn it up from the exhaust gas being to hot. Also they make bungs to raise the o2 s. so it does not get as hot. When I put them on my Turbo bikes I make 300 hp plus not harleys by the way. I put the o2 s. About 6 inchs away. And use a longer bung to get reed of the heat so it does not burn up the 02 S.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I also figured about 4 inches away from the opening of the headpipe. Thanks again.

ThunderMax, DTT, etc. The rule is 4 to 6 inches from the head; placement is affected by the curve of the pipe, heat shields, length of the sensor (TMax wide bands are longer than OEM narrow band). The bungs required are M18x1.5

Thanks fxrp. It looks like I'm right in the ballpark with mine.
