Fuel Tank Filter
I decided it was time to check my fuel filter in my tank. I have had some intermitent problems that I thought had to be fuel related and becides the book says to inspect the filter every 20K miles. So I got the thing out of there and YUCCCCCH! it was nasty. Plus it looked like the particles were getting past the filter. I drained the tank through a paint filter so I could tell what was coming from the tank and I could see the particles. After some flushing and cleaning I put it back together and it SEEMS to be running better. I fill up almost every day so it's not because the gas sits there. Just time I guess.

Your bike is a 02 so it is Delphi, what kind of issues where you having?? Reason I ask is that a common issue is that the fuel line in tank is prone to rubbing through, and causing problems.

No mine is the FLHR, carbed. I had a problem with the bike on the highway, it would cough and sputter occasionally like it was running out of gas. I would pull over and fill the tank and the problem would go away. Each time it seemed to be about the same mileage, just short of the reserve. On a carbed bike I could only relate that to the fuel system, probably the filter, because it seemed to be linked to the fuel level. After seeing the filter it made sense and so far it took care of the problem.
