Default in-line fuel filter?

i had my tank and fenders powder coated recently and they sand blasted my tank as well the fenders, but as im feeling around in my tank im finding some glass bead in the bottom, i have vacuumed the inside of the tank, but unsure if i got it all out, a guy at work told me to ditch the petcock filter and just run a Russell in-line fuel filter so that if i plug up with glass bead i can change out the filter on the fly without draining the tank and pulling the petcock out. Does that sound right? it sounds like it would work, but i wanted some of the forum members input on this!

thanks guys, kyle

i would leave the screen on the petcock ( no screen is asking for something to get plugged , and probably would be the petcock )

Tried that on my 1st Harley, 81 shovel 4spd. Anyway when it got hot the inline filter would vapor lock and act like the bike was running out of gas. Tried re-routing the lines and changing location of the filter but bottom line is it needs to go between the cylinders and it is hot there. Went back to the petcock filter and never tried it again.

If you can't see anymore evidence of glass bead left in your tank, just go with the petcock filter. Anything you may have lodged somewhere that may break loose won't amount to enough to clog it.

In-line filter is asking for trouble, not only the vapor lock possibility, but gravity won't push fuel through the filter. Not much that will pinch you up like passing a cattle truck on a 2 lane, in a pack, and running out of fuel to the carburetor, and you certainly can't do anything about that "on the fly". Took me a while to figure out the problem was the filter the previous owner had installed.
Sealing the tank may be your answer.
