Default ReWorking heads

A shop here in central New Mexico (New Life Builders) welds up and remills stock heads. They claim great results.
Any info, opinions or ideas on this shop or process?

Newer HD stock heads don't weld well. Something to do with the metal they are made out of. Too much Zink?? I have been told.

Dewey is retiring. If he has already stopped he has sold/passed on the name and product to a reputable porter. Contact him. I believe he's in Farmington.

The new heads are pretty darn good right out of the box. Unless you're doing something radical, it's not worth the expense. Or so the pro's tell me.

If you are doing something radical, try to have the heads ported by the same people who supply the rest of the parts/work.

That's true but only partially.

The '06 and later heads are much better, particularly in the ports and the valve springs. But for cost savings the MoCo went to a 1.80 intake valve (bad move). The cost savings is they only buy one size valve for all their heads, that includes Sportsters.

If you have the heads off an '06 and later bike, if nothing else have a good shop install a 1.90 intake valve. Its inexpensive andwill make a significant difference in performance.

New Life Builders used to be in Los Lunas....they have a motto: "Performance Bulit in, Not Bolted on"...I hear they do a sweet job building engines...not sure about the rest (electrical, etc.)

The 96" engine is no slouch though...the cost benefit ratio is sokething to consider...the Twinkie is pretty damned reliable as is.

I like the welded and cnc ported stuff by R&R because they took the David Vizard technology and took the core shift out of it. Ports 30% smaller they make the bike rev much quicker (nothing obnoxious). Cool the engine down 30-50 degrees also. 108-110 H&T with 95"'s.

Thanks all, I had them (new life) dyno and tune and am mostly happy. 70 hp and 90ft. I'm looking to the future and have been told that re milling is bad and that its good. I think he welds up the whole head ports and all.

Thanks again.
