Default Rejetted Carb

Ok, I've rejetted my carb with 27105-88 (#200) main jet, and I believe a 27171-89 (#42) slow jet (I tossed the package on this jet so I'm going by memory).

Adjusted the idle/mixture screw to what I believe is correct. Now, upon deceleration, throttle off, I have some minimal popping. I readjusted the mixture and it is a little less, but still noticable. I'm about 1 3/4 full turns on the screw. Could the popping be because of incorrect jet? Or should I still back the mixture screw out a tad more?

You have an '02 Fat Boy? Stock jets would have been 45/190. 42/200 is kind of an unusual combination and Inever heard of anyone putting in a smaller slow jet. I'd definately put a 45 back in it and adjust the mixture screw for best idle. You may also consider replacing theneedle with a 27094-88 Sportster needle, it's a little richer from off idle and may help with driveability and decel popping.

The 42 was a guess...I found the receipt and it's a 27165-90 #48 slow jet. So the combo is 48/200 with 1 3/4 turns.

Well, I went to HD today to discuss the popping noise with the jets I got. And he suggested checking for exhaust leak and to see what the jets were when I got home. Funny thing, when I looked at the old jets when I got home, I had a 48/190 combo. So this leads me to believe that the previous owner either changed the jet, or someone at HD really F'd up when the carb was installed at the factory. So, any ideas now?

Ok. Got it all fixed. The jetting is at 48/200. The popping noise, stupid of me not to figure it out in the first place, was the carb to manifold boot. Had a tear in it. It never came off when I took the carb off, so I'm thinking that it was like that from the previous owner. Which, in combination with the odd jetting size of 48/190, would explain the smurf pipes I took off the beast.

It runs soooo much better now. Thanks.
