Have an 07 Deluxe, Mean Mothers Long, Stage 1 with K&N Air Filter, NGK Iridium plugs gapped at .040 and a Power Commander III USB. I loaded the recommended PC map for the pipes and equipment and was getting around 26.5 MPG. Pipes and plugs indicated rich. Made adjustements to the map in the 1250-3250 range reducing the settings up to the 40% throttle. This map produced36.4 MPG - pipes and plugs were satisfactory and I had no backfires or poping, oil temp was around 190-195. I reduced the numbers a little more for the next function check this weekend.
My question is what kind of MPG should I settle for out of the 96CI motor. My brother has the 88CI motor and similar set-up and is getting around 42 MPG.
Today in the wonderful Kansas Winds I got 41.31 MPG. Pipes look good, no poping or backfires during the ride. Will check plugs as soon as the bike cools down. I'm cool with 160 mile leg and a 40 mile reserve.
Just happened to check gas milage today. 42 GPM. Today was 75 F. Put 150 Miles on the bike today. Oil temp was 220-230. Have about 1000 Miles on this build. Just about adjusted right.Ride medium to hard pretty much.

I think you are probably right. I run the same plugs and mine are a little darker especially the rear one. But they do look nice and even. I don't know how you tune but if this were a SERT I would adjust something that would be across the board for the engine. You could use the fuel bias tables if you use a SERT. Increase all values to 798. Would give 14.1 AFR. This would be my, and was, first thing to do. There are other ways to richen up a little. VE ratios across the board. Say 2 increase in front and 4-5 increase in the rear.
These changes probably won't hurt fuel milage as the power would be there a little easier and the engin might run cooler.
Thanks for the replys. I'm running a power commander and took it back to the base map. Also will get a Power Commander tuner to tune the bike in a few weeks. Thanks again.
I have had success using the mid range fuel button tomake the 2000-4000 RPM range a little fatter.I didn't like the looks of the light spots on your plugs. Are you sure you aren't getting a little pinging or rattle on roll on where you're at. Pulling a little out of the timing may help without making a fuel adjustment.
