HELP! Barfing Gas!
https://www.hdforums.com/m_2991563/tm.htm
After bouncing the problem off a few sources, one solution worthy of investigation popped up... The tank in its old state (sans petcock) must have flooded the works when I tied the line in a knot as a temporary fix. Unable to escape, this surplus found its way into the crank case where it mixed with the oil. the oil now having a higher level than normal purged the sludge somewhere out the back.
When I got home, I confirmed the oil tank did indeed reek of octane. So I bought 5 quarts of oil, planning to drain the excess, change the oil, let whatever excess contaminate attach to the fresh oil, changeoil a second time (along with filter), and the problem would be solved. I changed the oil and ran the bike, which has produced identical results! The bike runs strong for a few seconds, then dirty gasstarts purging right out there behind the oil tank. I shut the engine off thentried a couple of times more to ensure this wasn't some dormant sludge that has remained from the past. The engine will run strong about 30 seconds then kill. I didn't want to risk engine damage, so I stopped, but now I am stumped.
If there was a hell of a lot of gas that found its way to the crank case and into the oil, I figure it would have found its way out when I drained the tank. Is it actually possible that there was that much crap stored in the bike from thar overflow 3-4 nights ago that it would need some more purging sessions, or is there still something causing the gas to go shooting into the crank case? If so...???
