I have a 2006 Wide Glide, SE Intake and the remap....SEII slip ons right now too. Our Harley dealer has a Thunderheader 2into1 chrome system on blowout....new...$302!! Some say I need a SERT or Power Commander some don't. The dealership of course "recommends" it but thats partly because they want to sell, install and tune it then! More $$$ I'm am quite mechanically inclined and will install the system myself, do I need a tuner to get a performance gain, will it run ok or properly? In the future a tuner will be coming up, just not prepared to do that right this spring.
if you already have the down load it will be fine.... lean but fine. when you decide on a tuner imo i would go with the sert or pc3 but thats my opinion ..
just look around and see what the shops are familur with in your area first.
The HD download, as useless as it is, is really only designed for use with SE parts.
When you go to a 2-1 system, it's going to flow much more air then any SE exhaust would...........so you are now taking a lean setup and making it even leaner.
Go with the Power Commander and you'll be all set..............$280 from www.easternperformance.com then you just install the map for your build for free with no need to dyno tune.
Steve you and i both know thata stock engine is only going to take in so much air and fuel ..with altering the ecm toa stage i down load he already richened it up. Granted the maps are lean but there are a lot of guys running stage 1 down loadswith diffrent pipe combos on them. he stated that a tuner will be coming in the future, i took that as he pretty much wanted to know if it was safe and the answer is yes...... it will be lean but safe.
Steve is also correct as i stated it will be lean.
you can also spring for an extra couple of bucks a used dfo that will get ya by they are pretty cheap on e-bay .that will help and get you by until you can get a better system.
i ran a v&h bss and acfor about 3-4 thousand miles with just a stage 1 down load all thru the summer months in jersey and had no problems
I'll tell ya Monday when the sale is over! I'm still debating on the pipes. The problem is....I'm a cop and these are gonna be loud!!!! We got noise ordinance laws here and people bitch so much about pipes. Plus the dealer all knows me cuz my dad works there! But jeeeez $302...I saw em today...not including the heat shields, they only got one set, NIB
I installed a Thunderheader on my '03 Low Rider. The bike ran fine with the SE Stage 1 download. Absolutely no problems. A word of cauton, the Thunderheader is LOUD! And, you will need the heatshields because they discolor VERY badly and very quickly.
If you like them loud then you love the 2-1 Thunderheader. But like Bowtieman31 said get the heat shields you will want them exspecially if you don't have a perfect tune.$302 is a good deal I paid $525 3years agobut mine cam with the heatshields..
