It will be interesting to see if HD does a huge production run of 09 engines much the same way all the diesel engine makers did in 06 before the 2007 EPA regs kicked in. They had warehouses full of them and all the domestic users were buying them like crazy. Might be an investment item for re-sale 3 -5 years later. I do believe some day these air cooled engines will be worth more than we paid for them new. The aftermarket for wrecked motorcycles will be hot as the frame & specific vin # titled to that yearwill be grandfathered into the old regulations.
Think about it. If you check the Heavy Truck market you will see more and more trucking companies rebuilding older chassis with 2006 engines.
Harley can not touch kawa to design an engine ( in reality HD is the worst manufacturer, but their bikes look cool)
Hate to break your bubble there dude but Harley Davidson is one of the all time successful brands in the modern mechanized world.......along with other products where people identify the product with the actual company brand name. Examples: Shears are now called: Scissors (after Scissors Mfg Co.) A photocopier is now known as a Xerox Machine (Xerox Corp) Cola is called Coke or Pepsi (Coca Cola Bottling Co, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co.) and bagger style motorcycles are referred to as "Harley's". Ask any real marketing guy and he will tell you that type of brand recognition is what every marketing guy dreams about at night. They didn't get that way being the worst manufacturer none of them did. Harely Davidson included.
If you don't believe me try selling a Kawa T-Shirt for $35
Any other "Bagger style" motorcycle made is nothing more than a cheap imitation made by mindless engineers who lack the creativity to develop their own brand line and are just out to rip off market share created by Harley Davidson. Triumph motorcycles excluded as they have their own style.
Pull up to someone who knows nothing about motorcycles on a Yamaha bagger and they will say "nice Harley"...
that s a different matter, McDonald is well known worldwide and it is by far not the best food.
I have had 2 HD, my next bike will be a RK (SERK09 ?), but technically HD (especially concerning the engine) HD are not good bikes, they are not well built. I have owned HD BMW, Kawa (2), Honda, Ducati, and had problem ONLY with my HDs which was ridiculous as i took great care of them.
but i as said, my next bike will be a RK, HD is addictive.
I am not trying to **** any one off here but,,,, Look at all the money we spend trying to make are Harleys have 100 horse power plus........... after we pay about 18,000/24,000 for one then we spend another 3,000/6,000 just to get some more power. LOL LOL. I own a shop and I see this everyday. and I ask my self why do we all do this including myself......... This time around I told my self I will leave my 08 street glide alone. But I lied as soon as propcharger comes out with the surpercharger for 08 model baggers I will put one on. And I have 307 turbo Hayabusa horse power bike now...... My wife says Im nuts why waste the money. My answer I just dont know it something about a Harley that does this to me...... But then again it is all motorcycles do this to me. The rush I get when someone is racing one the 100/240/300/450 horse power bikes i Built for them at the track Just makes say wow!! Now I dont race I just bulid them When I see a customer of mine getting a 7.9 8.2 seconds in a 1/4 mile just scares the sh&*&* out of me..LOL LOL My 307 horse power bike is for show at the booths to tell people I can do this for you.....

dude,
i am on my 5th harley and i have had very few problems with any of them...don't take this the wrong way, but you sound like a total hipocrit. if you think the bikes a re built like crap, then dont buy them.
just my $.02
You either don't own a Harley and never have and are talkin crap or you really are stupid to believe that a machine " HD are not good bikes" is a piece of crap but you still pay big dollars to own one.
Who says Harley engines are poor quality ??? It's the absolute opposite !!! Everything in a Harley engine is made to last, bearing or bush races are well overdimensioned for what is required ! They may not be engineering marvels with OHC and 20 valves per port, but why change a winner ?
'nuff said
I didnt say poor quality, i said not well built, nothing is built to specs, there are not 2 identical engines, it is unacceptable in 2008 (btw it was unacceptable 20 years ago)
but i am not buying Harley because the quality of the engine, HD has much more to offer.
