What does that have to do with buying one of their kits? Many verysuccessful companies farm out theirspecial needs, such as dyno testing,to other companies who specialize in suchservices. The best engine builder is seldom the best enginedyno tester/tuner and vice versa.
Doug Coffey (owner) is one of the premier guys in the business of porting and reworking heads, grinding camsand then putting together kits that include cams and pistons that make the whole setup work like it should. He has been around forever (sorry Doug, no reference meant to your age) and his work is flawless. He does get a lot of feedback from his dealer network and Kevin has been known to put an engine or two together. They know what works!
thanks alot for the info and your input guys. i am getting so darn much DIFFRENT INFO from diffrent shops and dealers that i'm really getting frustrated. i read the info you guys are reporting and use it when i listen to the shops around me when shopping for a decentjob.the one fellow i was thinking of using, shot himself in the foot when he told me that i did'nt need to port the heads on my 06 88 when doing a 106 kit. people on this site stress the heck out of that and i believe it. he also said i need to buy a different starter and clutch for his 106 kit. wtf? that's why i'm thinking of buying hq's kit and find a decent knowledgable installer and tuner somewhere near my home. s/e wi. sorry for the long post but i go to bed thinking about this motor build and wakeup thinking about what the rite path to take is. so here i am reading and trying to make the rit move when i drop the bucks on my bike. i'd prefer around 110/110 when she's all said and done.
When talking with a lot of local, independent builders they may not have the broad knowledge base necesary to evaluate their recommendations against vs proven performance kits from the reputable shops such as HQ, GMR, Kury, etc.
A kit build will guarantee you that you have components that work well together and the guesswork is taken out of the mix. There are other very reputable builders that do use mix and match components, but they have been doing this for yers and through experience, know what works with what and what doesn't.
I have taken both routes on builds and can tell you that kit builds are a snap and that they produce very consistent results.
