I recently obtained a 98 FATBOY that has less than 8500 miles. It has been sitting without being ran for 2 plus years. I changed all oils and added fresh gas. It ran fine for a while then about the 3rd time filling it up with gas IT started spitting and sputtering at first then i got on it a little, now it cuts out every time u twist the throttle even just a little throttle. The motorcycle idles fine and sounds just fine idleing. What is my problem? Is it ignition problems or carbeurator problems?
Could be bad gas or you stirred up sediments in the tank when you filled it. Drain the tank and try fresh gas, if the problem continues, pull the carb and clean it good.
It does sound like you have a fuel issue. I would pull the petcock and clean the screen, make sure the tank is clean and blown out. Then I would pull the carb remove float bowl, pilot jet, main jet, emlusion tube, clean and blow out. Inspect the needle and seat , reset float height. AS well check the pulgs, clean and gap correctly. I would check the timing while you are doing the mini tune up.
