Repainted all the metal and got the bike back together last night.
Did some minor maintenance work during this time; brakes, primary oil change, brake fluid etc. NOT crankcase oil. Pulled off the A/F housing completely, cleaned it all up and reassembled.
I had an extra stock HD airfiler for my '98 Dyna on the shelf and put that on a months ago. The A/F was one that had the 2 spider "tubes" with the round plugs on the endand it looked like it fit fine.
Last night I filled the gas tank with enough to get to local gas station 1 miles up the road.
The bike fired up and off I went. When I returned 5-10 minutes later and pulled in the garage there was heavy oil dripping out the square opening at the botton of the A/F housing. It wasn't pouring out but there was a lot, about 4-6 oz.
During the ride back I thought I noticed the oil pressure (electric on the fairing) pegged but the engine sounded normal with no strain or excessive noise.
The bike has been on a lift for the past 5 months until last night.
More than likely the oil gravity fed into the engine (wet sumped) from sitting so long without running. (This is a common issue with the older style oil pumps). The oil pump can't handle returning all the oil that seeped into the crank case so some of it is blown out of the breathers going into the A/C. Remove the air filter and run the bike for a short period...it should clear it's self up.........have lots of rags ready.
