Default Do you have an all-SE modified engine?

I'm researching upgrading my stock engine to an SE 103" build. I know a lot of you mix and match various brands of engine parts to tweak performance. I'd like to stay all SE with my engine (I'm abrand-loyalist). Has anyone modified their engine using only SE parts? Head, tappets, push rods, etc. I'm interested to hear your feedback. Are/were you satisfied?

Also, what does a tappet do? What's the difference between stock and SE tappets? What is the difference between stock and SE push rods?

Has anyone installed the SE triple-platinum spark plugs? How are they compared to stock? Does installing them require any modification to the ECM?

Thanks.

SE aint my cup o tea.....none of us here with a fast harley mix & matches parts, its proven performance kits that make good power...some of us have built many motors and still order a kit cause they work....SE is underpowered, overpriced IMO...AND a tappet, taps

You might want to read the information in this very recent thread:

https://www.hdforums.com/m_3224906/tm.htm

In post 24 is a link to the HD SE Performance Parts catalog which includes pictures, and dyno charts of various HD kits.

As for the difference between the stock HD "B" lifters and SE lifters, the cost is the main difference--shoot, the Service Manager at my HD store doesn't even recommend them when customers (me included) were ill-informed enough to initially want them.

The most rational reason IMOfor doing an SE kit is the BB kit that retains the two-year HD warranty. For many, that is a very acceptable level of performance for the dollar and warranty retention. When you start considering the SE kits with SE heads, the warranty is gone, and the performance per dollar is poor value compared to other packages (Head-Quarters, GMR, etc.).

Good luck with your "brank loyalty" build.

I recently went with the Stage II 103 in my 07 FLHX. I am 20 horspower and 30 ft/lbs of torque over the baseline when it went in. It peaked at 93 hp and 104 tq. I already had the Stage I done with rineharts. So this only cost me around 1200 to do. I think this was money very well spent. Has great torque out of the hole and pulls great till around 4500rpm. It is much snappier than my old fatboy with the Stage II 95". The only problem being my buddies with the dynas's will catch me on the top end. The fairing, bike weight, and my weight are contributing factors to that. I can blow their doors off till about 110 , then they catch me.

I have SE 95 in and cams and SE Pro 2 into 1'sin my 05 Fattie. I'm happy with it but with what I know now I'll go with something different when I make my next modifications(I'll keep the pipes though, I love the look and sound. Too bad they are no longer available). You gotta remember what youare riding for. Personally I don't need to be going 100mph down the highway, nor do I need towhip some kid on a crotch rocket. I want decent acceleration and passing power on a 2 lane and I got that. For meanything more is just better bragging ammunition and there is nothing wrongwith that either.

I went with the 103" BB kit. Data and numbers are in sig. I'm happy with the results. The 2 year warranty was a factor for my decision.

i went with all SE performance parts and am pretty happy with the results. i suppose i could build a better motor, but i think it all depends on what you want to end up with. i wanted to get to the 100/100 mark. goal accomplished.

I have the SE Heads, forged pistonsand 95" BB kit, only with the S&S gear-driven cams. I'm turning nearly the same HP with only 95" cylinders. The key to better breathing heads, stock or aftermarket, im my opinion is having a reputable porting machinist work them for your particular application.

I have 2008 street glide with the following.

103 Big Bore
Screamin Eagle acr heads
Screamin Eagle plugs and wires
Screamin Eagle 10.5-1 forged pistons
Screamin Eagle heavy breather
Screamin Eagle 258 cam
D&D 2-1 fat Cat with performance baffle

The bike made 103HP and 117TQ

I chose SE due to the fact they gave me a 2 year warranty on the motor. It may not be the fastest harley out there but it sure is fun to ride.
