I have a 2000 FLTRI and I have a 41 engine code I think this is for a crank position sensor problem, my bike seems to be running fine so what is the deal here and will it be ok to ride to shop?
thank you
JB Bill
The codes for the delphi errors are .. Current 41 CKP sensor intermittent ..Current 41 CKP sensor synch error
The code 41 has no value assigned and when a CKP goes out on you , the engine will either not run or run poorly. Depending how far you have to ride, I would guess you'd be OK to do it,.
In my experience, the most common reason for most failures is the fact that you are a long way from home late on a Sunday night when everything is closed and no help is available. I think it is one of Murphy's laws.
What is the most common reason for the sensor to fail, and is it a common repair?
thanks again
JB bill
If it isn't a damage problem causing a failure being it is so close to the oil filter and gets some abuse at an oil change, the magnet in the sensor attracts metal filings from the engine oil as does the VSS in the transmission causing it to fail. Cleaning sometimes helps out but is only considered a temporary fix at best. There has been an upgraded snesor put out now that tells me they may have had a problem with the origional in the area of the wiring junction. It is not as common for these to fail as the VSS in the transmission is... https://www.hdforums.com/m_93482/tm.htm
Well I changed out the crank position sensor last night wasnt too difficult to do but it would have been alot easier if I had another pair of hands to help with the fishing of the wires through the conduit. The idle smoothed out and the trouble code went away.
thanks

have these (CKP sensor) been known to fail while hot and work while cold? I have a stopping problem I'm chasing on my 02 dyna, ride about 15 miles and bike dies out, then restarts after sitting for 10 minutes or so
Just replaced mine to fix my issue, what I did was to tie a piece of fishing line to th old wires while pulling the old one out,the then tie the other end to the new one,and use it to pull the wires back through.I did cut one tie-wrap and open one "strap" holder.worked like a champ!
