Default "Scraping" noise from engine?

My '02 EFI Night Train developed some sort of scraping/rubbing noise in the engine. The cam chain tensioners have been checked, along with the cam bearings, lifters, etc., and they all are good. I recently installed the HD auto-primary chain tensioner, but my noise began (I think) before that. Anything else obvious I should look at?

My mech. says those auto tensioners run the primary chain to tight. He likes the older style that kind of surrounds the whole chain, not like newer bikes that the chain just rolls over the block??? Try going stock or find this older style(evo)?? Steve

JBT, First, I would attempt to determine which side the scraping noise is coming from. If unable to locate, I would pull the magnetic drain plug and see if debrie is unusually heavy on the magnet.Next, pull the outerprimary cover and do a visual inspection of the pri chain for rubbing, be sure to check your comp sprocket nutthey do occasionally loosen and back out.The clutch in one of my bikes is due for replacement, and when dis-engaged does make a strange scraping sound. I am just assuming you problem is in the primary, and thus focused my advice on that section of the motor. Hope you find it soon, I know how irritating those problems can be. Good luck friend. Kevin.
