EFI temp sensor
recently read a comment in a mag where the writer suggested installing an intake (outside air) temp sensor in the back of the air cleaner plate. The original was left in place (to keep the hole filled) and the new one in the new location would give a cooler air temp reading to minimize leaning the air/fuel and thus reduce potential hotter running. Anyone tried this or have any thoughts on wether it makes sense or not?
The IAT sensor provides input signals to the ECM as it reacts to the temperature of the air entering the engine. For example, hot air contains less oxygen than cool air. The ECM uses the inputs from this sensor to help calculate how much oxygen exists in a quantity of air. It's located in the throttle body and changing it's location would vary the amount of fuel that is metered acording to the map that the engine recieves. If there was a way of varying the signal such as with a potentiometer you could dial it in if necessary. It may be beneficial as long as you could sniff the exhaust to see where you were at and not run overly rich. You would be tricking the map in the ECM doing this. There are kits available for many cars that do just this. I installed one in my corvette and noticed a difference in performance doing it. May be worth a try.
