What's the difference between a 4th gear pull on the dyno
as opposed to a 5th gear pull?
And what is the difference between starting the pull at 2000rpm
instead of 2500rpm?

Thanks in advance

The difference between a 4th gear and 5th gear pull is the 5th gear pull will generate higher hp and tq numbers. If your making quick tuning data runs at 100% throttle 4th gear is normally usedso engine stress will be low but once thefuel is all dialed in and the ignition set to burn that fuel a 5th gear run is made for the bragging rights.

Starting a run at 1500 rpms in 4th gear is normally the way a data run is made, we try to get all the information we canso starting at 1500 rpm will get more info than 2000 rpm, however if your doing a 5th gear run and startout at 1500 rpm your putting unnecessary stress on the motor so a 5th gear run is normally done at 2000 rpm. A runstarting at 2500 rpms looses too much data or a tuner is trying to hide something like a tq dip in the lower rpm range.

hey, just got a 07 883 sportster and i had a question about the exhaust, i'm sure i know the answer but i just want to get the correct answer. Can i remove the stock exhaust tips and just run w/ the straight pipes that are left, instead of buying slip ons to replace the stock muffler? If anyone has any comments please let me know.

You would have been better off posting your question in a new thread instead of in a thread about dyno runs....you might have gotten some replies. However I will say this, yes you can take the mufflers off your new 883 and run what is left...BUT WHY!!
It won't be good for your engine and the power will even be less that the 45 hp you have now. I suggest to leave the pipes on or buy a good exhaust system to meet your sound needs.
