Default MPG is low

I'm running a 2001 FLHTCI and getting about 35 mpg, riding one up and I wight about 225 lbs. Stock pipes, screaming eagle air cleaner and that's it. I'm not heavy on the throttle. I ride about 70 on the highway. This bike just seems to guzzle fuel. I recently had an M&M tune up for the FI. Bike has 44k miles. Any way to improve this? e.g. Less weight? Different oil or trans fluid?

What do you mean an "M&M tune up? Do you have a fuel adder....DFO, TFI, PC, SERT, Cobra or similar? If not, I know of no tuning to be done to the MM FI system.

The dealer cleaned the FI system and made sure all the settings were at factory-specified levels. No tuner, SERT or otherwise.

No offense, but it sounds like you were taken. As far as cleaning the FI system goes, about all they could do it change the fuel filter, which I hope they did or you definitely got ripped off, and pour in a bottle of fuel injected cleaner. Factory-specified settings? There is not much to set other than the idle and TPS if it is off.

I have a 2001 Flhtcui and I am converting to carb. I upgraded my motor to high compression 103" and the MM system is to finicky to handle that much upgrade. If your going to stay mostly stock to a mild 95" build I have a MM SERT that is 4 months old and the ECM that came off the bike I will let go for $250 plus shipping. With the SERT a tuner couldmake adjustment to the ECM for your build.

I've got the MM system on my 99 RKC, and I don't get the best mileage either. I think I'm in the 35-40 range, but it depends on many factors. I would start by checking your tire pressures. Having low pressure can consume 1-2mpg on a car, so it's worth checking on the bike. Also, where are you located, what part of the country? In cold weather, my mileage drops by about 15%. I ride with a shield and bags, so that will drop the mileage. Finally, do you warm the bike up for a few minutes or just drive away immediately?
