2000 Road King backfire HELP!!!!
I recently had the Gear Drive Cam(S&S 510) upgrade done on my 2000 Road King. It has stage one and Harley Touring mufflers. When I got it back it had a lot of decel popping. I had it dyno'd and the dealer said the fuel mixture was within limits. I took it to an independent and had a DFO installed and had the mapping washed. Fuel intake checked. Mufflers and pipes checked, changed and tightned. Gear drive cam removed and replaced. Electronic box(ECM ?) replaced. Throttle housing replaced. Still poppng. HELP!!!

i had the same problem with my 2000 roadking. i found the header flanges were not replaced
correctly and cold air was seeping into the pipes causing the poping. you have to loosen the
header bolts and make sure the flanges are alined properly and tightened to spect.

They removed the headers and replaced them. Didn't help. They called today and said as soon as they put the true duals on, all popping stopped. Grayrider, thanks a lot! I was pricing new bikes and preparing to take a beating on the old one. Randy

I bet if you add just a little more fuel, it'll stop........popping is generally a sign of a lean mixture. if you're at like 13.7, then try 13.5, you don't want to fatten it up too much, as you'll lose power. the equalizing pipe is actually a performance enhancener.
