Had my dyno today after about 2500 miles on the build. I have S&S Gear Drive with 510's, Big Shot Longs, SERT, Supersucker. I've attached a scan of the tune. The tune made a big difference. Final results were 86.6 HP/100.3 torque. I was expecting a little more HP than that. Tuner said a 2 into 1, some zipper heads and a 570 cam would make a monster out of it. Guess what I may be doing next ....
well first off i would not use the zippers heeads. i dont know enuff about them what i would use is Hyper performance , Hillside or Baisley.
Hyper uses R&R products
hillside ports your heads
Baisley also ports a set for you
several tests have shown that these 3 heads will get you where ya want to be and they are all comparable in price and performance at least thats what JD's dyno says.
Tell them what cam you want and piston your usin and they will give you a product that is excellant.
I agree with Goerge in that I'd probably shy away from the Zippers heads.
Be real careful "chasing" numbers on paper ~ it can get REALLY expensive!
Do yourself a favor and find a "package" of components that are known to work well together and produce repeatavble results.
Head-Quarters has a number of great packages, many of which I have had and/or used. They do what they are supposed to and add reliability to your motor.
THere are others that offer good packages too like R&R, Baisley, GMR, etc.
Do yourself a favor and do your research thoroughly before throwning good $$ after bad.
When I built my 103", I didn't know what I know now. I used the HD 103 flat top pistons, SE 255 cams, SE Heavy Breather. I put out 84 hp and 104 lbs of tq. I'm going to have the heads ported, and change to a different cam. The 255s pull really hard to about 3500 rpm, then fall flat on their face.
I Have a 95" with flatop cast pistons, 510 gear drive cams, a/c, PCIII, duals and heads ported by Dan Vance. A friend has the same 103 build and I smoke him every time we run. I am getting 94hp and 104.7 ft/lbs torque. The dyno run only went to 5000 rpm and the hp was still climbing. When the weather cools down out here I am going to have another run done out to 6000 or so and see what kind of power I make. It is fun to ride!!!
I have a 03 Ultra. When I bought it it had the 95" kit with 203 cams already installed. I recently went with Andrews 37G cams to gain a little more power and eliminate the came chain and tensioners. The power was only slightly better than before. I decided to get some head porting done and after much research I decided on having Dan Vance do my heads. He was a pleasure to work with. He answered all my questions in a very timely manner. He uses a unique design of his own and he has been racing HD's for a long time. I sent him a check and I had the heads within ten days! What a difference they have made! My bike is very responsive and the HP gain is quite impressive. The bike was tuned on a CycleDyn dyno so the numbers a very conservative. I feel there is probably a little more power and torque in there as it was very warm here when the bike was tuned. I highly recomend Dan Vance to anyone wanting to have their heads ported! I have a friend with a RG with the 103" and 255 SE cams. He has a PCIII and the bike has been dyno tuned. My bike is slightly faster. I am very pleased!!!
