Question spring

DOC,
I've had many of these apart also and I know that R&R the pipes is the putsy part but I have never tried to pull the cam cover w/o removing the pipes, have you done this on an Electra Glide " 04 " or do you know if you can sneak the cam cover off ? ? ? ?

THANKS
BILL

Thats a good point Bill....again I should have mentioned that my projects where on V&H ProPipe and Rineheart Ture Duals....removing the floor board and complete stock FL pipe would add some time to you job to say the least.

Default spring

Thanks DOC, now I don't feel quite so bad about how much pressure is gained with the stronger spring and what do you like to see for pressure on the road with engine up to full temp???
THANKS AGAIN

you can remove the cam cover without completely removing the exhaust. You can loosed it up and pry it away enough that the cam cover comes off. you need to remove the floor board. With a 2:1 it is really easy to pull the exhaust. The first time I did the baisley spring (at Docs suggestion about 4 years ago) I did not pull the cam plate as he said I did not need to. The biggest problem I had was getting the old one out around the tensioner spring tab. You have to hook the spring to pull it out and then spiral it out. The second time I did it with the cam plate out and much easier. I would however not pull the cam plate just to change the spring if that was all I was going to do.

With the 06 and earlier models we will see about 10 to 15 lbs at hot idle and 35 to 45 lbs hot at 2500 to 3000 rpm. The new 07 and up that pressure is higher due to the new pump but running hot at 2500 to 3000 rpm will be about 50 to 55 lbs and 20 lbs at hot idle. The main purpose of the spring is to deliver a good CONSTANT pressure to the lifters to stop that annoying ticking at 2500 to 2800 rpm and the lifter ticking on decel.

Question spring

DOC,
With the stock spring I am below 32 psi at 2000 rpm hot and at idle 1000 rpm hot it looks close to "0" the needle comes off of the peg but not much. Also hot on the road at around 2200 rpm it holds right about 32 psi. My question is would it be worth while putting the spring in and how much will it bump the pressure up " about "

THANKS AGAIN ! ! ! !

Default spring

I wasn't sure if those were recomended stock pressures or after the spring job. I will probably install the spring tomorrow time permitting and let you know exactly what gains I made.

THANKS AGAIN ! ! ! ! !

Default spring

Well I installed the spring this morning, I was able to loosen the front cylinder pipe and move it far enough fwd to remove the cam cover. The whole job went good except for reinstalling the cam tensioner, in the end I pulled the chain and gears and it took about five minutes, I wasted way more time trying to install it w/o removing the gears than you can believe. The pressures came up nice and I really think it did eliminate some of the thrashing.
THANKS for the advice and tips, it's really nice to have people who you can bounce ideas off of that understand what you are up to. Also there is no comparison in the two springs " physical "

When you pulled the gears the load of the valve springs on the cam lobs will turn the cams a bit ....did you get the timing marks back in alignment?
