I want to install an aftermarket oil pressure spring in my 05 EG.
Do I have to remove the cam sprockets and chain as well as the cam plate to replace the spring or can I drive the spring pin out with the cam plate in place install the new spring and then and then reinstall the spring Pin?
My scoot is going to get a new spring too, maybe a whole new cam support plate. My 131 would get too hot after about 30-40 minutes highway speed of 75mph @ about 2600rpm and oil pressure would slowly drop.
While you can do the install while the cam plate is in the bike, I wouldn't recommend it.
I installed my Baisley spring while the cam plate was out for my Woods cams install. It's a simple install, but the area is small and it's a lot easier with the cam plate out.
Steve is right it is easier when the plate is out but replacing the spring while the cam plate is in is a 45 min job. I've done this about 6 times at least....it's a piece of cake.
Doc
Steve, I am having some over heating issues as well and went to the # 4 spring as suggested by Baisley, it is supposed to give a 30% increase over the # 2 spring which is rated at a 15% increase. I think i will tray and get it in before the weekend, as the temps are in the high 90's here in FL and i plan on riding a bit this coming week end.
Also, I have noticed that when I run an octane booster it doesn't seem to run quit as hot, maybe just my imagination byt it doesnt want to cut out when i reach the magic 230 F temp. i thing the enthonal in the gas has something to do with it as well.
I will let you know how it works out and if it helps.
Thanks Al. Buy the way the guys at the shop are going to test the oil circuit with Fueling Air tester. I will let you know which spring Jims says to put in. This 131 has a billet cam support plate. I'm riding in Texas and it is really hot here in the afternoon. I have also been told that some of the big motor guys are running straight 50 weight synthetic.
Doc,
How can you install this spring in 45 minutes ??? it takes longer than that to get the pipes off ? ? ? ?
You mean to say it takes YOU longer than 45 min to remove the pipes, I can have the spring in and running less than an hour. Now maybe I should have took into consideration that people haven't worked on these machines as long as I have so it might take you all a little longer....point being there is no need to remove the cam plate, rocker boxes, tappets, gas tank....etc.
In some cases the pipes don't have to come off, the cam cover has room to be removed.
