Default Too Far???????????

Don't have 2 bikes in the shop at this point, with the same state licence plate. 2 coming from the Toronto metro area next week, and 2 also coming from Allentown next week.
2 more coming from Old Saratoga N.Y. as well. Not to change handlebars or install gemlin bells either.
Stayed at the shop till 4 today waiting for a client to come in from North Carolina.
Call Joes Cycle Repair in Mechanicville, to see why folks bring 'em in from 4-5 states away.

Wow` . Common` .. What’s happening here ?
I joined the forum to meet other folks with the same bike I have
and to learn the mechanics and maintenance tips and tricks. I also
was looking for advise to what could make my engine so noisy. I got
some good advise at first but now it seems like im being shamed
for not taking my bike to this HD shop .. Did I say something wrong
or ever give the hint that this guys shop was not a good shop ?
NO I DID NOT .. Fact is I just don’t have the money to take the
eight hour trip for them to hear my bike run.. Then if they decide
It needs work “that they can perform” , I cant afford the second eight
hour trip and the cost of a HD shop to do the work. That’s why im on
The (General HD Tech forum) is to diagnose my bike so I can maybe fix it myself.

I'll make it easy for you as I have an "85 FLHTC too. Bought it brand new & rode it all over the country quite a few times. The noises you hear are typical of a motor that old. Let someone listen to it that has some experience. That was my intention. My motor was making all that noise too until I rebuilt it. But that was with over 100,000 mi. on it. Before that it ran great just noisy. When I tyook it apart I didn't find anything wrong outside of normal wear. It's kinda like a Shovel. They make noises that to an untrained ear would think the motor was in bad shape. A Shovel owner would say it sounds good. Little nuances in each. The MOCO started changing things to get the noise down as the years went on but the early ones were built on the 'loose' side. that's why they run a little better. If you want to drive it to Chicago I'll listen to it for you for free.

Just peeked at your video.
A couple thoughts...
did your y pipe crack anywhere?
Have your ever replaced the lifter?
Have you been inside the primary at all? Many things to check in there that will make noise.
did you try a compression test. Try one cold first thing in the a.m. and than another with bike a bit warm.
Maybe look into a leakdown test as well.
A stethascope may help in pinpointing the noise as well.

I still say do the easy stuff first like change the primary oil & adjust the chain. Change the engine oil & cut open the old filter. Oil will tell you a lot. If you want to get on blackstone labs website and get a free test kit sent out to you and it will cost $22 for an engine oil analysis which will tell you what wear metals are in the oil and what may be coming apart. I agree to the many thanks we owe to our counties service men and women.(Ex 1st Cav. Div. 1/12 Combat Support Co., myself)
Matter of fact, the 08 Dyna, that came in Sat. for a 124", no less, is recieving a used Jagg 10 row cooler at very special pricing, just to say thanks to him. He clears roadways of the IUD's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice! My dealer in Akron OH has special pricing for all military people. Nice touch IMO. They deserve it for sure.
