Default Pinion Shaft Fitting

What is the correct fomular for finding the bearing sizes of the pinion shaft on a 1980 engine. I think the manual has a misprint.

Default clearance

I like to set them up with .001" total clearance. 1.751" - 1.250" - .001" = .500"/2 = .250" rollers (1 on each side).
