93 softtail misfire
Just purchased a 93 softail and inherited a misfire with it. I've checked and repaired as much electrical as I can, r&r'd plugs and wires, and because the bike runs better under load, suspect now it may be carburation. The person I got this bike from bought it as an investment and knew little about it. He suggested that it was a 140 ci, (sounds a bit big). The bike has lots of poop when you get on it, but at lower rpm or when cruising it acts like it has a dead, intermittant miss. Also died on me once at a stop and wouldn't restart. Still had some gas in the tank but pushed it to station anyway and filled up, after which it started. Different issue I think.
It has a screamin eagle ign. module, S&S carb, and what looks like a stock coil [2 inputs,(single fire?)]
I'm down to either a coil or carb adjust, but when I attempted adjusting the carb I just caused a huge backfire. I'm not sure which way to adjust fuel/air on this carb so any help would be appreciated.
I'm a certified master jag tech but from this view you'd never know it!
Thanx in advance.
The problem I am having is a loud pop(backfire/miss?) about every few revolutions. I can get it to be consistent in neutral after about 1200 rpm sounding like popcorn?? ONLY from the rear cylinder! I have even tried sticking something inside one section of the baffle to help with backpressure. I am getting ready to put it in someone else hands even though I hate to be defeated! I am buying a Factory manual tomorrow!
