Ok stupid question but what is the bottom end in a harley?
I am looking at a 97 roadking that needs the bottom end rebuilt but i dont really know what all is involved in that.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask what the "bottom end" is on a bike or motor then you may want to rethink buying a mechanics special because it will eat you out of house and home.
On edit I realized I didn't answer your originall question. The bottom end refers to the motor. I call anything in the cases the bottom end - ie crank, con rods.... At that point you might as well do a rebuild on the whole motor IMHO

Thank you for the input. After sleeping on this last night i am in the same opinion. While i do plan over time to be able to rebuild everything on my bike i do not want to get in over my head.
No worries. Again, I wasn't trying to be an a**. I'd just hate for you to get into a basket case and end up with 20 k into a bike worth 12 k if you know what I mean. My suggestion? Get something newer in decent running order and starty cutting your wrenching teeth on that. Doing the simple things yourself will give you the confidence when it is time to take a deeper dive. Good luck!
