So I'm about to lightly massage my motor... Of course that includes heads.. Started sending out emails to see what guys had to offer... Pretty amazing the difference in price for pretty much the same work.. Valve sizes kinda of struck me too.. Seems they all use different combination's of valve diameters along with everything else and they all say their port work is the best a guy can get...
Not far from you.. I'm near Princeton.. No one real local but there's one or 2 in the city just not sure about them at this point.. Kinda leaning towards Dewey's out in Washington after talking with him..

That's about as accurate a statement as guy that pulls up next to ya @ bike night on a V-Star & proceeds to tell you that your bike is no different than his & he can not imagine why you'd spend 2x the $$ for something that is no different than his.
Find yourself someone who's been in business for an extended period of time. It's a reasonably safe assumption to say that they know what they are doing & are doing things "right" if they've survived the test of time.
Have a look @ www.head-quarters.com (they've been doing this stuff since 1967, IIRC) Heck, many that peruse these sites were not even born in 1967.
you will realy need to chose you guy over the phone, and listen to the verbage!
after many calls to guys all over the US, and deciding on a price that i could affort, I went with HQ as well.
A couple of guys I spoke to were more Race oriented and wanted to sell me a dragster, one guy told me that if a bike needed compresion releases it wasnt built properly, i later found out otherwise!
I felt if i had to shell out I dime, I didnt want ANY regrets about the work, Did I leave anything on the table?
Am I going to get cams? Do i want to contuine to run bogus factory valve seals and inferior springs and guides?
After contemplating this, i wanted it done once, and right the first time.
Rail,
Many builders out there. All are very good I'm sure. However, with the wisdom
of a few folks on this site and many hours of talking over the phone with the different builders.
I chose to go with Head-Quarters. Sent my heads and jugs in for a 95"S/T kit. Got
everything back in 2 weeks. My bike now has plenty of power. And she starts on
the first revolution 9 out of 10 times. Very reliable and user friendly. By user friendly
I meen, follow what Kevin and Doug tell you, and it WILL work. Good luck in your search
and let us know what you end deciding on.

Reason: changing a few words
I was told a good PORTER is worth his weight in GOLD. A lot of guys claim to be great tattoo artists, that is until you see there work. The best will always stand out in a crowd or rise to the top, i guess its what your willing to pay. And nobody minds paying for good work, word of mouth to me is the best seller. Ask around, im sure the same name will start popping up on who does the BEST PORTING in your area.
