Need Help with Mikuni Carb - Intake
I am newbie to the forum and I have a question about air intakes.
I have a '97 Fat Boy with a Patrick Racing 125 engine. It came with a 45 mm Mikuni carburetor.
The "stock" air intake is a huge 8" gong. I want to change it to something a little more retro / cool looking...
Specifically, I was looking at a Doherty PowerPACC or Bob Wood 325... either of them with the filter exposed and a billet cover?
I want to make sure my engine gets plenty of air.. does anyone have any suggestions?

The best intake for a short manifold is a Forcewinder, it adds length to the intake tract and "tunes" the power band in lower.
The Doherty and the Bob Wood are really good, so is the Zipper's big sucker.
Really if you want looks, go for looks! But make sure the mounting is very solid, if it goes, the manifold will eat your heads up, and with the power of the 125 you won't know you're sucking air till it's way too late.
Around town an oval is best, on the highway a forced intake, but nothing is better than what really makes you happy to look at!

Thanks for the info.... I am torn now, because I like the look of the PowerPACC but definitely also want what is best for the bike.
I am not an overly big fan of the forcewinder look, but I want the best possible performance for my engine. The PR 125 isnt cheap!
When we were testing and developing the motor back in 1992-93, we used to use a dual mikuni setup. we found that the long runner on the manifold side had a lot to do with the power.
Many people use a dual carb rig on the track, but not as many people use a tuned intact tract!
I haven't found a good reason to prove that the motor cares if the intake tract length is before or after the venturi for the benefit of the intake pulses.
The studies and formulas we use came from the old chrysler 300 ram book. I think there is a website.
Check out www.AHDRA.com in the science of racing forum for discussions on intake tract tuning.
I think NRHS has somthing to say like we discovered:

So does S & S, but I forgot where.
Also check out RB Racing he's a madman, but there are somethings he gets right.

I'll run the stock air cleaner for now...
Whats your opinion of the Bassani ProStreet exhaust?
I really like the side by side look... I havent seen anyone around here with those pipes.
