I have been doing alot of research on this subject but I have a few questions. I have a 2001 DWG stock tc88 with Screaming Eagle ignition, hypersucker intake, 42mm carb and two into one Thunder Header. I am looking at the Andrews 37G gear driven system this will fit my riding style and bike quite well. so my questions are:
1) In the instructions for install they want you to check back lash and if it is too much or less you need to get under size or over size gears. If I need that will I have to buy another set of gears or will they exchange them?
2) How many of you that have done this kinda of mod have had to get under or over size gears?
3) Another requirement is that the pinion shaft has to has a max runout of .003" how often is that an issue?
4) Where can I get the best price for the parts?
Thanks, VAROOOOOM!!!
Jeff.
I think on 01 cranks you won't have much problem with run out. You have a better crank and bearing set up than later bikes. I think 02 was the last year for the timkin bearing set up. I have an 04 and I have low run out and I had perfect gear lash with stock gears. I believe if you find the best price on gear drive cams you will probably not get to exchange for over or undersize gears. American classic motors on ebay usually has the best price. Some times the best service is a little more.
