Default starting this beast!!!!

Hey everybody! I know we went over this before, but I'm still having trouble getting my new Sportster XL 1200C started, it always starts EVENTUALLY!!
I tried what it says to do in the handbook, pull choke all the way out, no gas and push the starter but that isn't working so the guy at the Harley shop said it open the throttle all the way a couple of time and close it and then push the starter button and this doesn't seem to work either, the only way I can get her going is to open the throttle, push the starter and give her some gas but I get the feeling this will eventually foul the plugs. I've been letting it warm up a minute or two at open choke and then pushing it in to half choke before taking off and riding a couple of mile before I push it all the way in, is this right or am I doing this wrong?? My other bike was nasty to start until I got a new exhaust and had the carb rejetted and I'm beginning to think this bike will be the same unless you can offer me some advice as to what or if I'm doing something wrong??? Any help would be great.

Well... I can only tell you what works for my beast. choke on, blip throttle twice, open thottle slightly (1/4 turn) and crank. As soon as it hits, take the choke off and little idle a little fast with the hand thottle until it is warm. The previous owner cranked on the throttle 3 to 4 times left the choke on full and let it warm up that way... and he always wondered why he kept fouling plugs....

I would do whatever works. You will not foul the plugs using the procedure you are using. The mainest thing is to close his choke after a couple of miles. He still may cough and spit a little if it is really cold but that's OK. I've ridden for 20 or 30 miles with the enricher on because I forgot to close it and that hasn't hurt anything. I suspect come summertime, it will start easier even though you will still have to choke it for just a bit.

You've described the two extremes with the throttle, so try something in between. First try it choke on, throttle at 1/4. If that doesn't work, try choke on, throttle at 1/2. Then choke on, throttle at 3/4. Still no go? Try choke at 1/2, throttle at 1/4. Then choke at 1/2, throttle at 1/2. Don't pump the throttle on any of these tries. If none of these works consistently, then repeat the process with a "squirt" of the throttle, then setting it at the 1/4 position, etc. Anyway, you probably get the picture.
